James Marshall «Jimi» Hendrix (nacido como Johnny Allen Hendrix; Seattle, Washington, 27 de noviembre de 1942 - Londres, 18 de septiembre de 1970) fue un guitarrista, cantante y compositor estadounidense. Es considerado uno de los más grandes guitarristas de la historia de la música, además de ser uno de los mayores innovadores y más influyentes artistas en una gran cantidad de géneros.

Su exhibición durante el cierre del festival de Woodstock en 1969 se transformó en un verdadero y propio símbolo: la imagen del guitarrista que con una irónica y desafiante visión del arte, toca el himno nacional estadounidense con una distorsión visiblemente provocada, y sin embargo brillante. Ésta entró prepotentemente en el imaginario colectivo musical como uno de los puntos de inflexión en la historia del rock.

Hendrix fue introducido en el Rock and Roll Hall of Fame en 1992.

En el año 2003, la revista Rolling Stone lo eligió como el mejor guitarrista de todos los tiempos. y en 2004 lo incluyó en su lista de los mejores artistas de toda la historia (nº6). En 2009, la revista estadounidense Time lo situó como el mejor guitarrista de guitarra eléctrica de la historia, por delante de Slash, B. B. King, Angus Young, Chuck Berry, Keith Richards y Jimmy Page.
